Ronald Jackson Payne of Canton, Georgia passed away peacefully at Northside Hospital Cherokee on February 20th, 2026 at the age of 69.
A celebration of life will take place at the Olde Oak Barn in Canton on March 22 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM.
Born in Canton, GA in 1957 to Glenn and Marjorie Payne, Ron graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He had a long and successful career working in power generation and robotics, accumulating numerous patents and gaining a reputation as a brilliant, outgoing engineer and manager with big ideas and a personality to match. Ron’s favorite place to be was on his snowboard making first tracks on a double black diamond slope underneath a bluebird sky. He loved cool cars, adrenaline sports, Georgia Tech football, good Scotch, and his family.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years and partner in crime, Susan Payne, his children, Leah and Jarrett, and his sister Sue. He will be remembered for his singular intellect, his dry wit, and his deep kindness.
