Ronald W. Schaake
Edwardsville - Ronald W. Schaake, age 81, of Edwardsville, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. He was born July 21, 1941, in Alton, Illinois, the son of the late Walter & Esther (Strohmeier) Schaake. Ron worked at Olin Industries in Alton as a machinist for over 35 years before retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joann L. (Pike) Schaake. They were married on April 29, 1967, at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Edwardsville. He is also survived by two daughters, Rhonda S. Schaake & Dan Grayson of Manchester, Missouri, & Patricia J. Rader & husband David of Edwardsville. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, EHS Class of 1959, Pin Oak Senior Citizens, Troy Senior Citizens, West County Daylily Club, and a longtime member of the Missouri Botanical Gardens. He was also a big St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and an all-around sports fan. Ron also enjoyed collecting baseball cards, traveling, bowling, working on puzzles, going to flea markets, antiquing, and playing cards with friends. He loved square dancing and was a member of the Jersey County Grand Squares where he was president for years.
He will be cremated according to his wishes and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Edwardsville with Rev. David Roderick officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Immanuel Church, Partners for Pets, or Polycystic Kidney Foundation (PKD). Weber & Rodney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
