Rev. Dr. Ronald David Sherwood, PhD, passed away into the arms of his Heavenly Father on October 23rd, 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina with his family by his side.
Deacon Ron was born on April 28th, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan; the son of Donald Sherwood and Regina (Hammer) Sherwood. Surviving are his wife, Virginia (Vicky), his two sons, Ronald Jr. and wife Carolynn; Stephen and partner Julie; and his two beloved granddaughters, Presley and Sydney Sherwood.
Also surviving are his brothers, Walter Sherwood and wife Susan of Michigan; Frederick Leiter and wife Brenda of Florida, and sister Carol Koster of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Rodney of Arizona, Michael of Florida, and Donna, his infant sister of Michigan.
Ronald received his Doctorate of Philosophy in the field of Theology from Hamilton University, and he has served as a Deacon in the Catholic Church since 1977. He faithfully served first in the state of Ohio, and after at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville, NC until his retirement. He was also a proud United States Navy veteran.
The siblings of Deacon Ron wish to express their gratitude to his Daughter-in-law, Carolynn Sherwood, as she used her talent as a nurse to love and care for Ron throughout his illness.
We will remember Ronny for his love of his family, old Westerns, and cracking jokes to bring a smile to people's faces every day. He will be lovingly missed.
Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his saints.
Psalm 116:15, RSVCE
The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 PM Tuesday, October 28 at St. Mark Catholic Church.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday at St. Mark Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.

To the best big brother any girl could have.
I will miss you. I will miss our daily texts. I will miss your Spanish lessons you texted for me to translate. I will miss our Sunday phone conversations. I will miss our phone calls or texts regarding what Western we were watching and to be sure I didn't miss an episode of All Creatures Great and Small. I will miss your dry sense of humor. I WILL MISS YOU.
Rest in peace dear brother. You deserve to.
