Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home & Alpha Crematory on Dec. 9, 2025.
Ronald E. Small passed away December 7, 2025 at Howard Young Medical Center following a long struggle with lung diseases. He was born on April 23, 1935 in La Crosse, WI to Roger and Myrtle (née Snyder) Small.
Ron retired from the US Army after 21 years of service. He was in Korea and Vietnam and also stationed in Panama, Europe and many locations across the US. Ron was a life member of the VFW and Vietnam Veterans. He really enjoyed his service time and many times wished he hadn't retired. He loved this country and followed all the news and politics going on today.
After his retirement he had a small cleaning business and worked at Cranberry Products for a few years. He then started a trucking business and went all over the country. Bo, his dog that travelled with him had over a millions miles on his paws! After again retiring he drove for Sowisnski Farms. Once his driving days were over he tinkered around the home, coming up with all kinds of project to do. He enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling and years ago some stock car racing.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents: Roger and Myrtle Small; brothers: Jerald and Clifford; in-laws: Joe and Mary Jane Mayo.
He is survived by his wife: Linda; 6 children, 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Also survived by sister-in-laws: Dorothy Small, Barb (Bill) Leveille; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He wanted to thank Joe, Mike, Ryan, Jake, Kim and Kari for helping him with things the last couple of years which he could no longer do. He really appreciated their help.
Per his request there will be no service. Interment will take place in Spring at the Eagle River Cemetery.
