James Scheunert Obituary

Visit the Olson Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Sheboygan website to view the full obituary.

James S. Scheunert, 82, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. He was born on May 16, 1943, in Milwaukee to the late Kermit Martin and Marie Margaret (Neuy) Scheunert. James graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School with the Class of 1961. Following graduation, he proudly served in the US Army.

On May 15, 1971, he was united in marriage to Claire B. Hutchinson in Milwaukee. Together, they celebrated 45 years. Claire preceded him in death on February 22, 2016.

James was a bus driver for the City of Sheboygan and bartended for over 60 years. He was a master mixologist at Rupp’s Downtown, the Hoffbrau, and for the past 25 years at the Elks Club. James enjoyed going to different breweries and was an ambassador for 3 Sheeps Brewing.

James had a strong faith and was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. He loved his church and enjoyed volunteering there. Going on mission trips to El Salvador was dear to his heart. He was also an amazing baker and loved to bake cookies around the holidays for the Women’s Shelter, and the church activities were a passion of his.

He was a Master Gardener, spending countless hours on his beautiful flower beds. A model train enthusiast and a traveler, taking trips to Door County and Eagle River, and going camping with his family at Buffalo Lake were among his favorite times spent creating lasting, cherished memories with them. He truly was a Jack of All Trades.

James is survived by his children; Steven Scheunert, Jeff (Annmarie) Scheunert, Heidi (Kevin) Conto, Lisa (Clifford) Broderick, Greg (Pam) Johns, Randy (Kris) Johns, Terry (Naomi) Johns and Scott (Julie) Johns, by his 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sister Sue (Ken) Berndt and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Claire, and sister Shirley Splinter.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11am at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2104 Geele Ave., Sheboygan, with Pastor Kristin Berglund officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 10-11am until the time of service at the St Peter Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James' honor. The family will be making a donation to the El Salvador church and families in El Salvador, where a part of his heart will always remain.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all the care, comfort, and support they gave to James.
