Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A. - TaneytownMr. Ronald Eugene “Ronnie” Summers, 67, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at his Group Home residence. Born on January 23, 1959, in Frederick, Maryland, he was the first son of the late James Hamilton and Margaret Virginia Main Summers.
Ronnie’s mother referred to him as “God’s Special Gift”. He was a member of the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren in Monrovia, Maryland. He attended schooling with Carroll Haven and the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) of Carroll County in their facilities in Westminster, Maryland. He also worked at the CHANGE facility in Westminster for many years performing labeling, packaging of merchandise, and envelope stuffing for commercial vendors. He enjoyed bowling, shopping, making crafts, taking walks to the local recreation park to watch the ducks. He loved spending time with his family, relatives, and friends at his family’s vacation home in Paw Paw, West Virginia. He especially enjoyed his trips to McDonald’s for his burger, fries, and coke. He was a jokester, always being mischievous with his family members and staff caregivers. No one can forget that Ronnie had the final say on the arrangements of rooms and furnishings. He routinely had to rearrange items to make them “perfect” in his view.
Surviving is his only brother, Larry Wayne Summers and his wife Aimee of Smithsburg; one nephew, James William Summers of Smithsburg; and one niece, Elizabeth Victoria Summers of Smithsburg. He is also survived by his three aunts: Mrs. Lydia Miller and Mrs. Evelyn Mossburg, both of Ijamsville, and Mrs. Betty Hayward, of St. Louis, Missouri, and numerous first cousins.
He will be fondly remembered by his special housemates Neil Walter and Joseph “Joe” Simms, with whom he has shared residence with since July 1988.
Friends may receive friends for visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 136 East Baltimore Street Taneytown (21157). A visitation will begin from 10-11am with Funeral Service starting at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821 Green Valley Road Monrovia, MD 21770. Pastor Dawn Weller will be officiating the service. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James W. Summers, Brad Miller, Kenneth Summers, James Ritter, Lee Mossburg, Wayne Richard, Floyd Westbrook, and Mark Main.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions in his name to the ARC of Carroll County, 180 Kriders Church Road, Westminster, MD 21158. The family wishes to offer sincere gratitude to LifeBridge Health (Carroll County Hospital) nursing staff and doctors for the critical care provided to Ronnie during his recent illness.
