Ronald Joel Tharp, age 84, of Seymour, passed away on Thursday evening, September 12, 2024.
Mr. Tharp was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour.
In his younger years, Ronald worked in tool and die, and subsequently he was employed by the State of Indiana as the first computer operator. Later, he owned "The Store in Belleville", and he was very active in the Cartersburg Volunteer Fire Department.
Ronald was greatly loved by his wife, Sue, along with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He treasured the moments spent with the family, particularly at the family lake. He also enjoyed bass fishing, gardening, canning, cooking, and woodworking, and had a deep passion for creating and making things. Ronald always had a great sense of humor.
Born on March 29, 1940, in Indianapolis, Ronald was the son of Hilden and Mildred (Pickerell) Tharp, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 4, 1972, he married Sue Jett, and she survives in Seymour.
Survivors also include: two sons: Gerald Tharp of Louisiana, and Jack (Shannon) Tharp of Avon; two daughters: Mindy Tharp of Seymour, and Charlena Jackson of Martinsville; 11 grandchildren: Jonas Jackson, Travis Tharp, Sarah Stephens, Matthew Stephens, Jeremiah Jackson, Kathryn Ogura, Jacob Jackson, Steven Tharp, Michael Stephens, Justin Tharp, and Austin Tharp; more than 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan Tharp of Plainfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ronald was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Joyce Tharp.
Funeral services for Ronald Joel Tharp will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour, with Pastor Jeffrey Stuckwisch officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour.
Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the caring staff of Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
