Ronald T. Turmel, Sr.
Ronald T. Turmel, Sr., 87, of Oakville and formerly of Oxford passed away peacefully at his home on May 19, 2025. Ron was the devoted husband of the late Patricia (Hill) Turmel for over 67 years whom he missed dearly every single day since her death less than 8 weeks ago. Born June 24, 1937 in Waterbury, Ron was one of 13 children born to the late Wilfred and Margaret (Griffin) Turmel.
Ron had an incredible work ethic. Seven days in a week meant 7 days for Ron to work. He worked multiple jobs at a time most of his adult life. He was a truck driver, owned a garbage route, a sanitation company and worked his farm, he called Oxbury Farm, in Oxford. He modeled devotion to family and the reward of hard work for his two sons Ron Jr. and Andy who have many fond memories of their lives on the farm. Raising cattle, swine, and horses as well as bailing acres of hay were Ron's favorite past times. In his earlier years, he enjoyed calf roping. As he aged, he then loved being a spectator at the arena on Friday night. He spent over 6 decades on Oxbury Farm, which he considered to be his only true home. He loved sitting on his back porch watching Andy's draft horses and just taking in the view of his beloved farm, the fruits of his labor.
He and his wife Pat were quite a team working side by side; raising their sons brought them tremendous joy. As their sons married and their family grew, their joy multiplied. Having grandchildren and later great-grandchildren settled Ron into his family role. He actually began to take time to relax and enjoy time spent with his grandsons and great-grandchildren. His family was his true north, his center.
Left to cherish his love and memory are his sons Ronald Jr. and his wife Susan of Watertown and Andy and his wife Sandy of Oxford; as well as his sisters Carol Anderson and her husband Walter and Judy Tartaro, all of Morris and his brother Brother David Turmel of Valatie, NY. Pop will be sorely missed by his grandsons Ronald III and his wife Mary of Watertown and Drew of Oxford. The lights of his life were his great-grandchildren, Remington (RT4) and Ryder (RT5) and they loved their G-Pop. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Besides wife Patricia (Hill) Turmel and his parents, Ron was predeceased by sisters, Mary Fortier, Joan Strumpf, Geri Hawks, Ruth Buccini, Ann (Sissy) Fantano and brothers, Dicky, Joe, and Sonny Turmel.
The family would like to thank the Hartford Hospice Team for their compassionate care. A very special thank you to our angel on earth, Kayla who cared tirelessly to allow Ron and Pat to spend their final days in their home with each other and Daisy.
Graveside services for Ron will be held?on Saturday, June 7th at 11 a.m. at Southford Cemetery, Rte. 67 and Hawley Rd., Oxford. Services will be followed by a bereavement luncheon in Watertown.
