Ronald Herman Verschelde

Ronald Herman Verschelde, 90, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026.

Born on July 28, 1935, in Minnesota, Ronald was the son of Herman and Mary (Hollebusch) Verschelde. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring with the rank of YNC and served at COMCRULANT as admirals staff. During his distinguished military career, he served aboard the USS Iowa, USS Newport News, USS Cambria, and USS Putnam. His service was marked by dedication and excellence, and he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal for his commitment to his country.

Following his retirement from the Navy, Ronald continued working for a ships-chandler in the marine industry, dedicating many years to Peltz Marine.

On November 22, 1955, Ronald married the love of his life, Muriel Dona (Severson) Verschelde. Together they shared over 70 years of marriage, building a life rooted in devotion, family, and enduring love.

Ronald enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved golfing, fishing, spending time outdoors doing yard work, and making his regular trips to the post office and commissary. He found comfort in routine and pride in caring for his home and family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Muriel Verschelde; his daughter, Allyson; his sons, Bradley and Roddy; and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly, and his son, Gary.

Ronald will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic, quiet dedication to his family, and faithful service to his country. His legacy lives on in the lives of those who loved him.
