Ronald Eugene Yahne
July 7, 1947 - October 9, 2024
In loving memory of Ronald Eugene Yahne: beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Eugene Yahne on October 9, 2024, at the age of 77. He lived a life filled with passion, purpose, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones, leaving behind a profound legacy that will forever inspire us.
Born July 7, 1947, in Tipp City, Ohio, to John James and Eunice Fitzgerald Yahne, Ron was one of three sons. He grew up in Ohio and attended Ohio University, which he always referred to as "the real Ohio University." There, he met the love of his life, Ruth Ann Hyer, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. Ron was drafted and served in the Army for 21 months and 22 days. (If he were writing this obituary, he might add the hours, minutes, and seconds too!)
After receiving his discharge from the Army, Ron and his family moved to Utah. He enrolled at Weber State College where he explored his love of geology and soon earned a second bachelor's degree in education. He began his career at Roy Junior High, teaching earth and physical science. During the summers, he worked as a ranger in Dinosaur National Monument, he loved to show off his hat to little kids long after he stopped working as a ranger.
In 1979, Ron began teaching physics and earth sciences at Clearfield High School. He was a much-loved teacher and mentor who believed science was best taught through experience. From a pit of glass and bed of nails to cardboard boats, pumpkin launchers, fire walks, and Newton's cradles made from bowling balls, Ron loved to challenge his students to explore the real world of science. His love of physics was infectious, and he quickly grew the physics program, becoming the inspiring, eccentric physics teacher everyone hopes to have. After 30 years, Ron retired but he never stopped teaching.
Although he taught physics, Ron never lost his passion for geology. He spent many summers leading field trips for other educators around Utah and western states sharing the geology of the areas they visited. His love of geology also inspired his son to go into Geotechnical Engineering and his granddaughter to minor in geology in college.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron was a loving husband to his wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann Hyer Yahne, a nurturing father to his children, and a doting grandfather. His family was the center of his world. His guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love will forever be cherished by his family.
Ron spent much of his retirement traveling the world with Ruth Ann by his side. Since Ron truly disliked air travel, they saw the world on cruise ships. The numerous expeditions they took in ports allowed them to really explore other cultures and adventures. Ron was excited that, with the cruise he took last winter, he had visited all 7 continents.
Ron was a man of diverse interests and passions. Whether he was pursuing his love for stained glass, woodwork, fishing, exploring the great outdoors, or traveling the world, he lived life to the fullest. His zest for adventure and curiosity about the world around him were infectious, inspiring all who knew him to embrace life's joys and new experiences.
Ron is survived by his wife Ruth Ann, son Jay (& Lori) Yahne, granddaughter Rosemary Yahne, brothers Ed (& Nancy) Yahne, Gareld (& Gail) Yahne, his nephews, nieces, and countless friends he considered to be family. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Eunice, and his son Dale Yahne.
