Saluda, SC: Ronnie "Ghost" Matthews, 65, of 257 Graham St., departed this life Tuesday night, May 27, 2025 at his home. after declining health.
He was born in Saluda, SC, September 22, 1959, the twelfth child born to the late George F. Matthews and the late Annie Mae Abney Matthews. He received his education in the public schools of Saluda County, South Carolina attending Riverside and Saluda High School. He was of Baptist Faith. During his working life he worked at American Fiber and Finishing Plant and for many years he worked for Scurry Heating and Air-conditioning. Later in life he became one of the caretakers for his mother until her passing. Ronnie loved his nieces and nephews. He was a diehard fan of the Miami Dolphins and the Lady Gamecock's.
He was affectionately called "Ghost" by his many friends and family and he will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Gloria (Pam) Smith, Winnie Abney, Lafayette Matthews and Jessie Coleman.
She leaves to cherish and honor his memory; brothers, George W. Matthews, Mt. Rainer, MD, Nathaniel (Lillie Ruth) Matthews, Bennie C. Matthews, and John Oscar Matthews all of Saluda, SC; sisters, Edna Mae Coleman and Ella Marie Lindsay both of Washington, DC; Genell Attaway of Missouri City, TX, Lambert (Albert) Kinard, Saluda, SC, Tommie (Edwin) Garrett, Irmo, SC, Alice Cannon, Leesville, SC and Vanessa Matthews, Newberry, SC; his caretakers were Shawtaya Abney, Felicia Matthews and Osyris Springs; best friends, Cathy Ouzts and Shawn C. Pridgen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
The family is at the home.
As this family go through their Valley Experience, please include the family in your prayers when you bow to pray.
