Rev. Ronnie Clarence Peterson, age 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 28, 2024. He was born in Joliet, Illinois on June 21, 1932, to Clarence A. and Stella J. (Nelson) Peterson. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ione (Lantis) Peterson; children Timothy Peterson of Leesburg, VA, Douglas (Sarah) Peterson of Norton Shores, MI and Todd (Lisa) Peterson of Purcellville, VA; 6 grandchildren, Matthew (Dustee) Peterson, Jordan (Mariah) Peterson, Stephanie (Dustin) Hanes, Jennifer (Mohit) Peterson-Sharma; Brett Peterson and Holly (Andre Henry) Peterson; 2 great-granddaughters, Harper Peterson and Aurora Hanes; step-grandson, Caden Gorman; sister, Marcella Johnson of Green Bay, WI; brother, James (Donna) Peterson of Dekalb, IL; sister-in-law, Gino (Don) Cobin; brother-in law, Doug (Sherry) Lantis; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Thomas Peterson: his brother Leavitt A. Peterson and several sisters and brothers-in-law.
Ronnie graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL in 1954 and from Augustana Theological Seminary in 1958. He Pastored a total of 6 different congregations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. While serving his first parish in Hinckley, Minnesota he met the love of his life, Ione (nee Lantis) Hagen. They were married on November 30, 1963, and raised 5 boys together. At the end of June in 1997, he retired from his last full-time parish in Kalamazoo, MI and moved with Ione and Tim to Mineral, VA on the shores of Lake Anna. Several years after that they moved to Round Hill, VA to be closer to their son, Todd.
Ronnie enjoyed many things in life, but he was especially fond of fishing. He took the family every year to Ely Minnesota where he continued to vacation most of his life until he wasn't physically able. Ronnie also enjoyed fishing and pulling his kids and grandchildren on his pontoon boat on Lake Anna. But it was his chosen vocation and calling to the ministry that defined him. In all that he did and in all that he lived, a life in Christ was the most important thing to him. His devotion, his service, his love for family and friends are his legacy. For all that we are truly grateful.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 12:15 PM at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:30 until service time. A luncheon will follow. The burial will take place at 2:30 PM at Ebenezer Cemetery, 20421 Airmont Rd. in Bluemont.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
