Ronnie Cecil Shockley, 80, of Bristol, Virginia passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tennessee.  He was born in Osaka, Virginia on August 1, 1943, the son of the late Joe Cecil Shockley and Eula Blair Shockley.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Norma Shockley, his two daughters, Toni Teaster and husband, Chris of Bristol, Virginia and Hope Yawn and husband, Charles of Clarksville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Morgan Dzuba, and husband, James, Evan Teaster, Scott Yawn, and Joseph Yawn; one great-grandchild, Tucker Dzuba; one brother, Terry Shockley and wife, Vicki, and a wonderful church family.

Ronnie was an employee of Virginia Department of Transportation for many years in the Right of Way division and retired from VDOT around 2007.  Outside of his professional life, he was known as a kind-hearted man and very devoted to his family.  He was a loving, dedicated, and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He enjoyed attending NASCAR races in his youth with his wife, Norma, but in recent years he loved watching from his recliner in the den at home.  Ronnie was an avid college and NFL football fan as well.  He also enjoyed spending time on the back porch with his wife and family members watching the cardinals, blue jays, and wrens at his bird feeder on a pretty day and most recently watching his two year old great-grandson play.

He was a member of the East Bristol Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and then as an elder for many years.  He was a great leader and an example to all.  He was a true Christian and Godly man.

Ronnie, affectionately known as “Granddad,” was there for every birthday, soccer game, choir concert, graduation, and any other event that involved his family and his church family.  His legacy of kindness, dedication, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation services to honor Ronnie’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Farris Funeral Service - Main Street Chapel in Abingdon, Virginia.  A graveside service will follow on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 11:00 am at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia on Lee Highway with Floyd Bailey, minister, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the East Bristol Church of Christ, 1625 Bonham Road, Bristol, Virginia 24201.

A special thank you goes out to the nurses in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) and fourth floor at Bristol Regional Medical Center, especially, Angie, Heather, Crystal and Sandi.
