Willie Edward Bordwine, aged 46, of Abingdon, Virginia, departed this world on Sunday, September 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and creativity. Born on November 10, 1978, he was the beloved son of Randy and Judy Bordwine, nurtured in the vibrant community of Abingdon.
He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1996, and continued to pursue his love for words at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned his B.A. in Literature. He later received his Master’s degree in Literature from the University of Massachusetts.
In addition to his literary pursuits, Willie found joy in the culinary arts, especially baking. His skill and passion flourished as he worked at several local establishments, including the Wild Flour Bakery, Harvest Table Restaurant, Sisters American Grill, and Dwayne & Co.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, H.K. and Betty Bordwine; and maternal grandparents, Silas and Gladys Kestner.
In addition to his parents, Willie is also survived by his sister, Jennifer Taylor and husband, Brian, of Saltville, Va.; two nieces, Carlee Taylor and fiancé, Matt, of Bristol, Va. and Sydney Taylor of Saltville, Va.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Brumley Gap Methodist Church, 19039 Brumley Gap Rd., Abingdon, VA 24210, with Pastor David Stancil officiating. A committal service will follow at Hiram Henderson Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the church.
Pallbearers will be Travis Smith, Josh Smith, David Jones, Matt Nash, Matt Gibson, and Adam Heath. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Shrader, Michael Smith, Dwayne Anderson, and Dr. Bob Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hiram Henderson Family Cemetery Fund, 27205 Poore Valley Rd., Saltville, Va. 24370.
