Ronny Joseph Lenzy Jr., 51, of Kansas City, passed away on June7, 2025. Affectionately known as *Joey* or *Joe,* he was a beloved husband, son, father, brother, uncle and friend whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Born and raised in Kansas City, Joey was known for his warmth, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty to his loved ones.
Whether sharing stories, offering a helping hand, or cheering on his favorite team*the Kansas City Chiefs*Joey had a way of bringing people together. He had a genuine love for people and truly never met a stranger. It was often joked that if there wasn*t a person around to talk to, he*d talk to a wall until it spoke back. Joey was a longtime member of Westminster Baptist Church and professed his faith at an early age. He was inquisitive by nature*always
eager to learn, explore ideas, and connect deeply with others.
He attended elementary school at Saint Therese Little Flower, where he made several lifelong friends, and later graduated from Hickman Mills High School in 1992. He pursued higher education at Lincoln University and Central Missouri State University. In 1997, driven by a sense of adventure, Joey relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he began working for CSX Railroad. Over the next 23 years, he built a reputation for dedication, leadership, and an infectious sense of humor that endeared him to coworkers and friends alike. After relocating back to Kansas City in 2018 he begin his career at IRS for a brief moment then transferring to the Social Security Administration
until his passing.
While in Atlanta, Joey met the love of his life, Sherryl Celeste Lenzy. Their bond was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and shared dreams. Together, they built a life full of warmth, joy, and partnership.Their union produced a daughter and two sons, Ronny Joseph Lenzy III and Ryan Kendall Lenzy. Joey was a loving and devoted father, providing support, guidance, and unconditional love. He took great pride in his sons and relished every moment spent with them*whether coaching from the sidelines, sharing life lessons, or simply enjoying
their company.
Joey cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sherryl Lenzy of Raytown, MO; his sons, Ronny III and Ryan Lenzy of Raytown, MO; his daughter Sarenthian Smith of Eufaula, AL; granddaughter Caleigh Kennedy of Eufaula, AL; his father, Ronny Joseph Lenzy, Sr. of Kansas City, MO; his sister, Tracie Lenzy of Kansas City, MO; Honorary Parents Byron & Cynthia Edwards of Jacksonville, FL; mother-in-law Janice Thomas of Eufaula, AL: father-in-law James Merrill, brother-in-laws James Merrill Jr. of Eufaula, AL; Demmonique (Shemieta) Walker of Shreveport, LA; Kendall (Shayla) Davis of Griffin, GA; Robert Merrill of Atlanta. GA; sister-in-laws Wendy Watson of Atlanta, GA; Patricia Merrill of Eufaula, AL; nephew Dequan Lenzy of Harker Heights, TX; niece Zala Payne of Kansas City, MO; Special Friends Fred Barnes and Derwin (Sonia) Jackson, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Brenda M. Lenzy; sister Kristen Lenzy-Payne; maternal grandparents Albert and Bertha Swanegan and Paternal grandparents Joseph Lenzy and Vernora Bill White-Lenzy, along with other beloved family members who welcomed him home.
His legacy lives on in the love he gave and the memories he leaves behind.
Funeral Service Held: Westminster Baptist Church 11230 Bristol Terr. Kansas City, MO., Saturday, June 21, 2025. Visitation 9:00 AM-11:00 AM, funeral service 11:00 AM. Interment Brooking Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
