Rosa Figueroa, Mom or Grandma to her family, completed her earthly journey on July 25, 2025, at the age of 87, in La Puente, California. Mom embodied the definition of a mama bear. Her strong faith provided her the love and strength to put God and family first every day.
Mom, lovingly remembered by her family as a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, left behind a legacy of faith, strength, and loving kindness. Her children, William (Lori), Humberto Jr. (Angie), Cesar (Patty), Rosa M. (Tim), and Gabriel (Marlene) mourn her loss, alongside her 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter, who revered her as the heart of the family. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Humberto Sr., and her dear children, Ramiro and Elvira.
Mom was born on September 6, 1937, in Ario De Rosales, Michoacán, Mexico, to Maria de la Salud Parra and Jose Trinidad Rodriguez. She was the youngest of 10 children. As a result she grew up with nephews her age, who lovingly called her Tia. She loved sharing stories of her childhood in Mexico and visited as often as she could. Her surviving siblings, her brother Jesus and sister Aurora, were able to speak to her in her final moments.
Mom's Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life, as she came to America from Mexico to give her children the American Dream. She worked as a seamstress for three decades, weaving care and precision into every garment. She wove a vibrant tapestry that wrapped her family in unwavering love, demonstrating the importance of hard work and pride to her children. Her faith, always present, in her home and in her heart.
In her so-called retirement, Mom was an entrepreneur and businesswoman, selling "manteles" at swap meets and eagerly setting up yard sales at home. She ran circles around those half her age, fiercely independent and completing DIY projects at home. As a child, she watched and learned as her father and brothers worked and built. She was immensely proud of making home improvements on her own which created a welcoming home for family and friends.
But at heart she remained a homemaker, turning the four houses she purchased into a home, warmed with her welcoming spirit, the aroma of her cooking and the sounds of Javier Solís. She would prepare meals on the spot, even if you insisted you weren't hungry. Her cooking, filled with love, provided the most amazing corundas-a Michoacan style tamale, mole, and carnitas. And she would ensure to bring her famous Rompope with Jello, a simple yet delicious end to family gatherings.
Mom's interests painted a picture of a woman who also treasured life's simple joys. She was a strong independent woman, but also young at heart. Whether it was hosting family gatherings, riding the fastest roller coasters at amusement parks, taking shots with her adult grandchildren, or bouncing in an inflatable jumper with the young grandchildren, she did it with great love and laughter. Her grandchildren brought her such joy, as she cared for many of them as babies. Her love of classical movies, especially musicals, always brought a smile to her face. Her family will long for her cinematic storytelling of her childhood and loving parents, as she regaled the stories over and over.
As mom's earthly story concludes, the legacy of her spirit-a powerful and gentle force-will continue to inspire and guide her family. Mom left us with a treasure trove of moments more precious than anything money can buy-a true testament to the life she lived and the family she cared for. The void left by her departure is immense, yet her influence remains eternal. Rosa Figueroa, a remarkable woman by every measure, will be remembered for her loving heart, the comfort she provided, and the lives she enriched. Rest in peace, dear mom/grandma; your memory will forever be a cherished treasure.
