Rosa "Rosie" Alvarez,76, of Elgin, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. Rosie, born on September 27, 1949, was a beacon of warmth and kindness in the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her. Married to her beloved husband, Aurelio Alvarez, since February 15, 1972, Rosie dedicated her life to her family, finding immense joy in preparing meals for family gatherings and spending quiet evenings filled with laughter and stories. She cherished the simple pleasures of life, always taking time to enjoy her favorite westerns, particularly "Gunsmoke" and the GRIT channel. Rosie's legacy continues through her beloved family. She is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Aurelio Alvarez; their daughter, Marie Hostetler; grandsons, Travis Carlson (Ashley) and Cameron Hostetler; her twin sister, Louisa Cordova; and her great-granddaughter, Serenity Beltran. Each of them carries a piece of her spirit and love, forever imprinted in their hearts. The love and care of many touched Rosie’s journey, and her family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff of Baylor Scott and White, Enhabit Home Health Nursing, and Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Round Rock. Over the past two years, a remarkable care team developed around her, including Irene, Benita, Blanca, Louisa, Luke, Travis, Cameron, Ashley, Linda, Janie, and Delores. The support they provided and the kindness shown during her hospital stays were testaments to the light she brought into the world. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Simona Avalos, and her daughter, Patricia Avalos, in 2022, as well as her son, Robert Alvarez, in 2023, and her son-in-law, Rudy Hostetler, in 2019. Rosie was also preceded by 14 siblings, all of whom she is reunited with now. The family is deeply thankful for the time they shared with Rosie and will carry her spirit in their hearts forever. As they say goodbye, they remember her laughter, her cooking, and the profound love that defined her life. Rosie will be missed dearly but will continue to live on in the cherished memories of those she loved. Family and Friends will gather for a Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home on Friday, October 17th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Celebration of Christian Funeral Mass will be conducted at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Elgin, Saturday, October 18th, at 10:00 AM with Father Paul presiding. Christian Burial will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.
