Rosalia "Rosie" Ibarra (née Maya), age 93, passed away peacefully August 4, 2025, in Buffalo, Wyoming. Born August 22, 1931, in Sunbilla, Navarra, Spain. Rosie lived a life marked by devotion to family, work, faith and community.
Rosie's journey was one of resilience and dedication. Over the years, she wore many hats with grace and determination. She managed her own dry cleaners, a café with pride and skill, as well as working alongside her brothers on a sheep ranch for many years. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her tireless work ethic. In retirement, she continued to give of herself by caring for the Gozar children extending her nurturing heart beyond her own family.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Rosie attended mass faithfully every week. Her generosity extended to the church as well; she often prepared meals for Father Pete -especially her renowned lamb dish that became something of a legend among those who knew her.
Rosie had a zest for life that was evident in everything she did. She loved to dance with joy, play mus-a traditional Basque card game-with spirited enthusiasm, and cook meals that brought people together. Anyone fortunate enough to have shared a meal at Rosie's table knew they were experiencing something truly special.
She is survived by her four daughters: Pilar, Maria(Skip), Josephine, and Begona; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters; one brother; numerous nieces and nephews; and several dear friends whose lives were touched by her warmth and wisdom.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Benito and Juaquina; five brothers; and a cherished great-granddaughter.
Those who knew Rosie will remember her as a kindhearted soul who looked after others with unwavering care. Her legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely and the quiet wisdom she shared throughout her life.
May Rosie's memory bring comfort to all who were blessed to know her.
