With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Rosaria Sabatino who lived to the age of 79. Rosaria was a loving wife to the late Gennaro, loving mother to Filomena, Julia, Gerardo, loving mother-in-law to Peter and Carmela, and loving nonna to Nicholas, Tiffany, Amanda, Isabella, and Stefano.
Rosaria was born in the town of Calabritto in the Province of Avellino in Italy. After immigrating to the United States with her husband Gennaro in the 1960s, she spent most of her years working as a seamstress for Brooks Brothers while raising her three children. Rosaria was a member of the Astoria community for five decades and spent many of those years actively involved in the parish of St. Joseph Church on 30th Avenue as well as the Club di Calabrittano. One of the ways her devotion was shown was by attending the St. Pio Prayer Group each week at St. Joseph. She also contributed her culinary skills by helping during community events at the church.
Time spent with family was when Rosaria was the happiest. She took great pride in cooking and baking for holidays, especially for the Feast of the Seven Fishes during Christmas Eve. She loved spending time with her five grandchildren whether it was picking them up from school when they were children, telling them stories of her life in Italy, or playing the card game Scopa. She will be greatly missed by all.
