Rose A. Cote, 78, passed away on February 21, 2026, at a Caribou health care facility. She was born in Madawaska on March 20, 1947, daughter of the late Hector and Antoinette (Chasse) Michaud.
Rose graduated from Madawaska High School in 1965, where she found joy in playing the French horn as a member of the high school band. She furthered her education at the University of Maine in Fort Kent, earning an associate's degree in behavioral science in 1987.
In 1966, Rose married Renald J. Cote in Madawaska, and together they worked diligently on a potato farm for 25 years. This partnership not only flourished in agriculture but also extended into their deep commitment to family and community.
Rose was known for her active participation in many local initiatives, including being a prominent member of the choir and contributing vital leadership as a Local Regent with the Daughters of Isabella.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Kelly Cote and her fiancé Rich Edwards of Rockledge, FL; her son, Allen Cote and his wife Tess of Fort Kent, ME; and her granddaughter, Molly Cote of Holden, ME. She will also be dearly remembered by her brothers, Reno of Buffalo, NY; Jean Guy of Madawaska; Gerald and his wife Michelle of Grand Isle; and her sister, Linda and her husband Lionel Lavoie of Mars Hill, ME.
Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Renald J. Cote, and her parents, Hector and Antoinette Michaud. She is also predeceased by her brothers, Leo James, Lewellen, Eugene, and Hector, Jr.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff at Cary Medical Center who provided exemplary care during Rose's final moments.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Madawaska. Relatives and friends are invited to Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Sunday, March 1, and again from 9am until 9:45am on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Rose A. Cote’s remarkable life will be celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit and dedication to family, friends, and community will live on in the hearts of those she loved.
