Rose Newton Obituary
Rosie was born on January 8, 1953 in Lebanon, Kentucky to Joseph "Viella" Settles and Mary "Leona" (Buckman) Settles. She married Francis Edward "Ed" Newton. He preceded her in passing.
She is survived by her children, Faith Newton (Eric Castevens) and Russ Newton (Lindsay); grandchildren, Garrett Castevens and Porter Newton; sister, Joyce Evans; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Rose was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Ed; siblings, Ann Gibbs, Patricia Bueter, and Roger Settles; niece Tonya Evans; nephew, Brian Settles; and many pets.
Rosie was a 1972 graduate of Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville, Kentucky.
She was employed as a sheet metal journey woman, teacher's aide and school bus assistant while her kids were young. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated domestic engineer to the fullest extent. She was a true DIYer and was a very hands-on person.
Rosie was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She had a great love for horses. She was often found gardening, cooking, and sewing. She was known for her big smile and infectious laugh. Above all, she loved her immediate and extended family, especially her kids and grandkids.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday March 6, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive Franklin, Indiana 46131. Visitation in Indiana will be from 11:00 a.m. until the start of Mass at 1:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Friday, March 6th. Visitation in Kentucky will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 10600 Taylorsville Road Louisville, Kentucky 40299. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington, Kentucky at 2:00 p.m.
