Rose Stoebner Obituary

Rose Stoebner

January 29, 1937 - May 15, 2025

Rose Marie "Rosie" Stoebner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and service. Rosie was a gentle, kind soul whose warmth, and joyful spirit inspired all who knew her.

She was the daughter of Harold and Clara Lippert, growing up on a farm near Tripp, SD, with her three brothers. Rosie was a member of the homecoming court at Tripp High School, where she met her future husband, Don Stoebner, before graduating in 1955. She earned her degree in Elementary and Christian Education from Sioux Falls College in 1959.

Rosie married Don, and within three years, they welcomed three children in three different cities: Dean in Sheboygan, WI; Kristi in Minneapolis, MN; and Bart in Carthage, SD. During this busy time, Rosie taught school to help support her husband's seminary studies.

While in Ipswich, SD, she continued teaching and earned her Master's Degree from Colorado State University. In 1976, they moved to Rapid City, where Don managed Placerville Camp, and Rosie served as camp cook for twelve summers. She also taught at Hill City and Pinedale in Rapid City, later cooking at a UCC retreat center in Maine. When Don transitioned back into parish ministry in Nebraska, Rosie worked as an elementary school counselor, Sunday school superintendent, and loved her role as a pastor's wife.

In 2004, they retired to Rapid City and enjoyed sunsets on their deck. Rosie loved spending time with her family, quilting, puzzling, reading, and visiting friends. She was a talented pianist who also enjoyed singing in duets, quartets, and choirs. She cooked scrumptious food like mouth-wateringly delicious warm cinnamon rolls.

Rosie is survived by her children Dean (Rapid City), Kristi McCracken (Porterville, CA), and Bart (Diane), Mumford, TN; her brothers, LeRoy (Carol), Danville, IA, Henry (Sherry), Ackley, IA, and Merlyn (Elaine), Ankeny, IA. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Rosie was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an empowering teacher. Her effervescent smile and joyous presence delighted those who knew her. Rosie led an unassuming yet extraordinary life in service to others.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at South Park United Church of Christ, in Rapid City, with interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Dear Dean, Kristi, and Bart,
When your mom taught 3rd grade, I was hired to teach 4th grade at Ipswich Elementary. Rosie had a huge positive influence on my teaching career. She taught me to have empathy, love and respect for ALL students. Things you don´t learn in college. I know I was a better person and teacher because of your mom.
I always enjoyed her Christmas poems. I will certainly miss them. God Bless!
