Rose was born on May 12, 1930 in Cleveland Ohio. She was the eldest child of Robert and Bertha Dissauer. She had 2 sisters, Teresa and Bertha and two brothers, Robert and Joseph. She grew up in Cleveland and when she was 16 years old, while working with her best friend, Irene Unfried, met her future husband, Richard Michael Unfried, Irene's brother. They were married on July 5, 1947 until Dick's death on August 15, 2015 - 68 years.
They had 7 children between 1950 and 1966. Kathleen, Richard Jr. Colleen, Michael, Robert, Mary and James. Kathleen and Jim were born on the same day 16 years apart. An omen?
They moved from Ohio to California in February of 1967 to the city of Garden Grove and lived there until moving to Sun City, CA in 1990s. Their final move was to San Juan Capistrano in 2005 and loved this area of southern California.
Rose did not complete high school while growing up in Cleveland but went back to night school with 5 of her children still living at home and received her GED. Then she went back to work.
She worked for Crocker Bank, Blue Magic, a company that made metal polish and then at Lawerence printing company.
Rose enrolled the 5 younger children in Catholic School at St. Columbian in Garden Grove. She hoped all of her children would choose her faith.
Rose attended daily Mass and would walk to church from her house to St. Columbian with her husband after they had retired.
Rose loved traveling the world visiting churches and Holy sites like, Fatima, Lourdes, Medjugorje, Rome and Jerusalem. She visited churches in Norway, Belgium, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Israel, Spain, Italy, France and Portugal.
Rose would visit her family as often as possible back in Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Oregon and Arizona and always celebrated Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, Weddings and Funerals where ever they may be.
From her and her husband's 7 children Rose now has 27 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Rose's funeral Mass will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ladera Ranch on Friday, October 27, 2023. Viewing starts at 10 am with a rosary prayed 20 minutes before Mass starts at 11 am. There will be a motorcade to Ascension Cemetery and after the graveside services a reception at 31301 Via Cuartel in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
All are welcome and please let us know if you are coming to the reception by Monday Oct. 23rd.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Catholic Charities of Orange County which was one of Rose's favorite charities.
May God Bless you and your family.
