I am sad to hear about the passing of Gary Unfried. I worked for Gary at Harbor City Learning Center in Baltimore. In fact, he gave me my first teaching job there back in 1995, and I am still teaching today. I will always remember him as a very supportive and caring principal, always looking out for his students as well as his staff. I remember that he supported me when I wanted to start a school newspaper and yearbook, even giving me a journalism class to teach. He also covered for me gracefully and diplomatically when I made some mistakes in my first few years of teaching. He gave me teaching advice that I still remember ( and use ) to this day. When I had an opportunity to transfer to another school, even though it was the week before school started, he supported me in my decision. I am grateful and appreciative for all that he did for me, and I just wanted to take a moment to honor his memory.
