In Loving Memory of Roseley Tainia Mapu Tuaitanu
September 29, 1961 – October 28, 2025
Born on September 29, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawai'i, to Lei'a Afusia Mapu and Pianola Fonua, Roseley was the beloved middle child who grew up surrounded by faith, laughter, and the beauty of her Polynesian roots.
From her early years performing in her father's show, Chief Mapu and the Sounds of Polynesia, to her athletic achievements in volleyball, basketball, and track, Roseley lived life with grace, humor, and unstoppable energy. She represented American Samoa in the Oceania Pacific Games and later coached and inspired many through her Tongan Crush volleyball teams.
While performing at Adventureland Inn in Iowa, she met lifelong friends and, soon after, the love of her life, Toe Tuaitanu. They were sealed for time and eternity on October 12, 1991, in the Jordan River Temple, and together they cherished their son, Benny Vigil, who became the heart of Roseley's life.
Roseley worked in the airline industry and thrived as an entrepreneur. She was known for her radiant smile, generous heart, and impeccable style-earning her the nickname "Ms. Vogue." She adored her family, treated her in-laws as her own, and was lovingly called "Santa Claus" by her nieces and nephews for her giving spirit.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roseley found great joy in the temple and in sharing her testimony of the Savior. Her faith, kindness, and love touched everyone she met.
She is survived by her mother, Pianola Fonua Mapu; husband, Toe Tuaitanu; son, Benny Vigil; siblings Tasi Ainu'u, Ve'a Afo, Sina Ainu'u, Lusiana Lara, David Aina Vaamu, and Ginger Lotulelei; and grandchildren in heart, Didi, Tainia "Nini," Sammie Tuilevuka, and Yvanna "Sinalei" Tupolo.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lei'a Afusia Mapu; siblings Tony Mapu, Feleti Moimoi, and Ravena Finau; and nephew Anderson "Soni" Christian Lotulelei.
Roseley leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and faith that will live on in all who knew her.
