Rosella Catherine Meitl, age 89, passed away on February 10, 2025, in Bel Aire, Kansas. Rosella was born May 15, 1935, to Joseph and Anna (Schwartz) Bange.
Rosella was raised on the family farm located south of Sequin, Kansas, attended a one room country school in her younger grades and graduated from Sheridan Community High School in Hoxie, Kansas in 1953. After high school, Rosella worked at the Benjamin Franklin store in Hoxie.
On August 17, 1955, Rosella married Walter Meitl in Sequin, Kansas. They lived their first four years of married life in Selden then moved to the Meitl home place, where they raised their family. In 1987, Rosella and Walter moved to Oberlin.
Rosella was a faithful and dedicated wife and mother. She was a member of the Catholic Churches in Selden, Leoville and Oberlin and was actively involved in Alter Society, Kansans for Life and NAMI. Through the years, Rosella was a very devoted Catholic and along with her husband, Walter, taught religious education, was involved with Engaged Encounter as a team couple and enjoyed making crucifixes as gifts.
Rosella had a love of quilting, making quilts for each grandchild and various missions. She actively volunteered serving meals at the senior center and to homebound individuals. She loved collecting inspirational verses and quotes. Her skills in sewing, gardening, canning and making homemade breads and jams were loved by her family.
Rosella always enjoyed her grandchildren and following their activities. She was a great example of strong faith, unconditional love and patience. She was blessed with many friends and loved being a good neighbor, always willing to help.
She is survived by three sons: Charles (Debra) Meitl of Hardtner, Gary (Tina) Meitl of Dresden and Carl (Stephanie) Meitl of Gilbert, AZ; two daughters: Joyce (Bob) Miller of Salina and Karen (Shawn) Dooley of Belle Plaine; one brother: Ed Bange of Garden City; one sister: Mildred (Dennis) Hill of Great Bend; one brother-in-law: Harold (Janice) Meitl of Glen Ellyn, IL; fourteen grandchildren: Amanda (Darin) Wittman, Josh (Nicole) Meitl, Ramsey (Charles) Thompson, Kira (Vern) Dreiling, Mica Morel, Kelsie (Cody) Morris, Audrey (Evan) Crenshaw and Lea Morel, Nathan (Karlie) Miller, Shane Miller, Britnee Dooley, Brandon (Kristin) Dooley; Nathanial Meitl and Alexis Meitl; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, four children in infancy: Joseph, Gerard, Jean and Janese; son, Dale Meitl; son-in-law, Philip Morel; three brothers: Vincent Bange, Raymond Bange and Sylvester Bange; two sisters: Agnes Bange and Barbara Reitcheck; Eight brother-in-laws: Alfred Reitcheck, Bernard Campbell, Mike Kenney, Sylvester Meitl, Gerald Meitl, Ernest Meitl, Elmer Meitl and Fr, Roger Meitl; eight sister-in-laws: Rosemary Bange, Francis Bange, Genevive Campbell, Evelyn "Jackie" Kenney, Faye Meitl, Lois Meitl, Loretta Meitl, and Florence Thompson.
Visitation will be from 1:00-7:00pm at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, with family receiving guests from 5-7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Leoville, Kansas at 10:30am. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Leoville, Kansas.
