Rosemarie Caporaso (Caputo) passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, October 12th, at Westminster Village, Dover Delaware.
Born on January 2, 1943, Rosemarie lived the first 5 years of her life in Newark, New Jersey in a multi-generational home surrounded by the love her parents, grandparents, siblings, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Seeking a future outside of the city, the family relocated to
Dover, Delaware on July 4th, 1948. In the fall of that same year, Rosemaire entered 1st grade where she formed both friendships and a love of learning that lasted a lifetime.
Rosemarie thrived in school. She was academically gifted, crowned Homecoming Queen, and Miss Dover High. She served on the yearbook committee and was captain of the Dover High School Cheerleading squad. She earned a full scholarship to the University of Delaware. At college, Rosemaire was able to pursue her passion for foreign languages, art history, and cultural studies. She studied abroad attending the University of Saltillo Coahuila Mexico outside of Mexico City where she was immersed in the language and culture that she fell in love with. In 1965 she graduated with a BS in Elementary Education/Spanish with a minor in Art history.
Following graduation in 1965, Rosemarie began her teaching career. She was a visionary and creative force. Her compassion, expertise and leadership skills were admired and respected by parents, students, administrators, and colleagues alike. Rosemarie brought innovation and creativity to every aspect of her student's experiences. She was a favorite among her students, many of whom she maintained connections with throughout her life.
Rosemarie's passion for learning extended beyond the classroom and her hobbies reflected her creative and intellectual spirit. She enjoyed reading, art, language study and travel. Fluent in Spanish, Rosemarie traveled extensively throughout Europe and Mexico.
But before all else Rosemarie was deeply devoted to her family. Her family relationships were a cornerstone of her life. She fiercely protected and cherished her daughter, granddaughters, siblings, nieces, and nephews. As the eldest of five, Rosemarie was a natural caregiver. She was a devoted Aunt, visiting her nieces and nephews at every opportunity. As a grandmother, she enjoyed art projects, creative play, cooking, and sharing laughter during sleepovers with her granddaughters.
Rosemarie is survived by her daughter, Alexa Kishbaugh, granddaughters Amy Slattery and Eleanor Kishbaugh, sister, Karen Caputo, brother, Gregory Caputo. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph & Mary Caputo, sister and brother-in-law Janet and Robert Kidd, and brother Joseph Caputo, Jr.
Services will be held at Ambruso Funeral Home, State Street
Dover, DE Saturday, October 19th. Visitation will begin at 10:30 and the memorial services will begin at 12.
