RoseMarie Smith, a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, at the age of 89 in Belleville, Michigan. Born on February 25, 1936, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, RoseMarie's life was characterized by her unwavering love for family, friends, and the simple joys of life.
The cherished daughter of the late Earl and Dorothy Nowlin, RoseMarie grew up in a nurturing environment that shaped her into the compassionate person she was. Her siblings, the late Earlene (Alan) Patterson, the late Bruce (Nancy) Nowlin, and the late Barbara (Dennis) Bandy, shared in the lively household that fostered her spirited personality.
RoseMarie found her soulmate in Sidney Smith, with whom she shared a vibrant and loving marriage until his passing 15 years later. Their union was a testament to true partnership and mutual adoration, bringing forth a legacy of children who were the center of their world: Mark, Janice, Karen (Bruce) Juback, Keith, Steven (Deshawn), and Susan (Mark) Robertson. Her son Samuel Hubbell preceded her in death, leaving behind memories that continued to light up RoseMarie's life. Her grandchildren, Amy (Kyle), Richard, Emily (Andrew), Eric, Christopher, Sydnee (Eduardo), and Olivia, her great granddaughter, were the apples of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Professionally, RoseMarie's career spanned various roles, each echoing her ability to connect with people and brighten their days. Starting at Mabell as a switchboard operator, she entertained many with the delightful anecdotes of her experiences. Her career path meandered through secretarial positions, a stint with a vending machine company, and a role as a nightly caregiver at a girls' home in Novi. Eventually, RoseMarie found her calling at Corewell Wayne, previously known as Annapolis Hospital, in the Dietary/Kitchen department. Here, her dedication and hard work were not just a job, but a reflection of her nurturing spirit.
Beyond her professional life, RoseMarie's vibrancy shone through her active social life. She cherished the excitement of casino trips, the camaraderie of Euchre and Bunco nights, and the shared laughter with her close-knit groups of friends. A die-hard Red Wing fan, she fondly recalled attending games with her father as a young girl, an experience that ignited a lifelong passion for hockey.
RoseMarie's interests extended to reading and participating in the Red Hatters group, where her zest for life was as vivid as the group's signature red hats. Her volunteer spirit was evident in her involvement with the PTO, as a Girl Scout leader, and as a den mother for the Boy Scouts. She was the embodiment of community spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
Described as "the sweetest woman," RoseMarie's resilience, strength, and open-hearted nature were her hallmarks. She never met a stranger, and her genuine care for others knew no bounds. Her positive outlook and refusal to speak negatively of anyone were a rare and cherished trait that will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
RoseMarie Smith's life was a tapestry of love, friendship, and service, woven with the golden threads of her unwavering kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all the lives she touched. Her legacy of love and warmth remains a guiding light for those who continue her journey.
