Lorraine Kretz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Uht Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Dec. 4, 2025.
Lorraine Gertrude Kretz, aged 88, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, in Dearborn, MI, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 25, 1937, in Detroit, MI, Lorraine was the beloved daughter of the late Edmund and Helen Kretz. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, whose vivacious spirit and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Lorraine's life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family. She was the proud mother of Mary Kretz-Young, Helen Martens, Simone (Patrick) Hendrican, Shelly (Toby) Osborne, and Eugene DeMeerleer. Her legacy continued to flourish through her grandchildren Ray, Ron, and RanDee Willis, Lorraine Martens, Sean, Sarah, Peter, and Brendan Hendrican, Amanda, Emily, and Nicholas Osborne, and Katrina and Griffin DeMeerleer, as well as her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Each of them brought her immense joy and pride, and she leaves behind a treasure trove of cherished memories.
A woman of many interests, Lorraine's zest for life was infectious. She was an avid player of bingo and cards, which brought her much joy and camaraderie. Her hands were rarely still, as she delighted in sewing and creating beautiful ceramics. Lorraine was also known for her prowess at the bowling alley and her love for feeding the birds and squirrels that visited her. Her home was a testament to her love of holidays, always decorated with care, especially at Christmas when her beloved nativity scene took pride of place. Her family dinners were legendary, as she poured love into every dish she served.
Lorraine's love for her family was matched only by her love for her dogs, who were her faithful companions over the years. She enjoyed her regular breakfasts at Leon's Family Dining in Dearborn, where she was a familiar and much-loved figure. Her sassy nature, steadfast ways, and firecracker personality made her a formidable yet endearing presence in the lives of those she touched.
To have known Lorraine was to know a woman of strength, character, and an unyielding capacity for love. Her laughter, wisdom, and indomitable spirit will continue to inspire her family and friends. Lorraine's journey through life was a testament to the power of joy, resilience, and the enduring bonds of family. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her world.
As we say farewell to Lorraine Gertrude Kretz, we celebrate a life well-lived, a matriarch cherished, and a legacy that will continue to shine through the generations she nurtured and loved. Her memory will be held in the hearts of her family and friends as a beacon of love and the warmth of home. Lorraine's life story is one of love, laughter, and the beautiful tapestry of family-a story that will be recounted with fondness and pride for years to come.
