Rosemary Dummer Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 15, 2024.
Rosemary June Dummer (Dunn) was born August 8th 1927 in St Paul, Minnesota. She passe away peacefully on November 1, 2024. She graduated from Ramsey High School and attended the University of Minnesota from 1945 to 1949, where she met the love of her life, Donald J Dummer. They married in 1949, and moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she taught High School English for 2 years before moving back to Minnesota. She began raising a family and ultimately had four children, Tim, Michael, Dan, and Diana. During these early years she was active in religious education and taught High School Religious Ed through the Archdiocese of St Paul. At the age of 42 she went back to college and completed an MA in Family Social Sciences at the
University of Minnesota in 1971. She then started a private practice in marriage and family counseling, which she continued until the age of 79. In her practice she mentored many young student therapists.
Rosemary was always active in social issues, and in 1989 received the Dreikurs Award from the Adler Institute for her work getting a bill through the Minnesota Legislature to establish licensure for marriage and family therapists. In fact, for several years thereafter an award was given called the Rosemary Dummer Award, from the Minnesota Marriage and Family Institute to individuals with outstanding activities in the field of marriage and family counseling.
She loved snow skiing, water skiing, and tennis, playing into her 80s. She loved her time at their cabin on Deer Lake and especially all the wonderful parties they had with friends around the lake.
Rosemary always loved engaging people in deep, meaningful conversations about world
events, education, psychology, and theology. Probably the only thing she liked better was to get hugs from everyone she met.. In her later years, as her abilities became more limited, she still considered herself an ambassador of peace, love and kindness. She was always kind to everyone she met. After more than a year in hospice, she passed peacefully on Nov 1, to be with her beloved Donald again. She was a blessing to a everyone she came in contact with.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Donald, parents, Clarence and Evelyn, and her sisters Patricia and Kathy, and is survived by her children Tim (Colleen), Mike (Diane), Dan (Lynda) and Diana (Jimmy), as well as 7 grandchildren (Matthew, Erich, Nora, Joseph, Patrick, Ben and Jonathon) and 8 great grandchildren (Ellie, Miles, Emmett, Josie, Gideon, Fiona, Oliver and Emma). The light she brought to the world will be missed greatly.
Special thanks to all her caregivers at Johanna Shores Nursing Facility and the Optage hospice team for their wonderful service to her.
A celebration of her life with a Visitation will begin at 10 AM on Thursday, Dec 12, 2024,
followed by a service at 11 and a luncheon at 11:45, all at Common Ground: United Methodist Community, 404 Cypress St N, Cambridge. Please consider wearing bright colored clothes ( pink and green were her favorite) in honor of her life.

Rosemary was a remarkable, brilliant, witty, deeply caring, and amazing woman. She is finally at peace now, in the care of her guardian angels and God. Her beloved nephew, Brian, and I will miss spending time with Rosemary and taking her to church each Sunday. May Rosemary´s radiant spirit continue to guide us, always reminding us to cherish every moment, hold our loved ones a bit closer at every opportunity, and to be ambassadors of Hope Everlasting, Love, and Peace, an acronym to remind us to always HELP others, just as she always did.  She will always be deeply missed. Rosemary will live on forever in our hearts. "Those we love don´t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and always dear."
We love you very much, Aunt Rosemary!
