Rosemary Flynt Newby, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at her home on Lincolnton Rd. near Washington in which she has lived for over 50 years. Daughter of the late James L. and Lois Blakey Flynt, she was born on January 15, 1941 in Washington.
Soon after graduating from Washington High School in 1959, Rosemary began a career as a beautician. On June 19, 1965 she and Olin Newby began a life together and enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Together they raised two children, Carri Newby (Angie) of Monroe and Laura Newby Cleveland (Jeff) of Washington. Rosemary's role as a mother was one, she cherished deeply, and it only expanded with the arrival of her beloved grandchildren, Jasmine Cleveland, Dillon Newby (Courtney), and Caitlyn Newby, and later her great-grandchildren, Cameryn Raven, Jaxson Cleveland, Aspen Killingsworth, and Dakota Newby and her sisters Doris Rhodes and Elaine Perry (Leonard). She was predeceased by her sister Karen Radakovitz and infant sister Carolyn Jeanette Flynt.
Rosemary's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Washington Chapel until 1965, after which she joined the First Methodist Church of Washington with her husband. There, she served on the hostess committee, affectionately known as the "Kitchen Saints," where she shared her warmth and hospitality with all.
A homemaker at heart, Rosemary's talents extended beyond the walls of her home. She enjoyed china painting, collecting antiques and was a great cook whose recipes will be cherished for generations. She and Olin also enjoyed traveling with the Lions Club.
Her special caregiver, Rosella Callaway, and other caregivers Angela Nix, Olivia Rogers, and Karla Edwards of Bristol Hospice, provided her with comfort and companionship in her final days.
Rosemary Flynt Newby's legacy is one of love, faith, and family. Her memory will be held in the hearts of those she touched, and her influence will continue to be felt through the lives of her family and the community she so dearly loved. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the life she lived and the love she gave so freely.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Methodist Church of Washington P O Box 518 Washington, Georgia 30673 or the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind 5626 Laura Walker Road Waycross, Georgia 31503.
