Mr. Lewis Riley Hall, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the age of 92 in Washington, Georgia. Born on July 3, 1933, in Wilkes County, Georgia, Lewis's life was a testament to his resilience, work ethic, and kindness.
Lewis attended Washington High School and soon answered the call of duty and served his country in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean Conflict.
Returning home, Lewis embarked on a long and distinguished career as a truck driver. For 38 years, he was a familiar face on the roads, driving for Signal Delivery as a Sears affiliate, making his daily route from Washington all over the Augusta area until he was transferred to the Atlanta terminal. After retirement, he drove for H&H Logging and ended his career at an age north of 80 years old with Wilkes County as a dump truck driver. His time behind the wheel was not just a job; it was a way to connect with the community he so loved and had his health not failed, he would have continued working.
Lewis's life was grounded in his Christian faith. He was a devoted member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. His faith was a quiet but powerful force that guided him through life's challenges and joys.
A man of many interests, Lewis was particularly passionate about his collection of hit and miss engines and old tractors. He took great pride in showcasing his John Deere, Farmall, and McCormick Deering tractors in parades, Pioneer Day, Mule Day, and car shows. His love for "Old Iron" was more than a hobby; it was a way to preserve history and share his knowledge with others.
Lewis was a kind soul, always ready with a helping hand or a word of encouragement. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Inez Strother Hall; son, Tom Hall and wife Marcha; daughters, Sandra H. Pope of Atlanta and Teresa H. Burdette and husband Ed of Washington; brother, Curtis Hall and wife Mary Kaye of Washington; and sister, Frances Lloyd of Jackson, Georgia; grandchildren, Milton Roberts IV of Atlanta, Russell Burdette (Kailey) of Nashville, Madison Burt (Alec) of Lincolnton, Gene Hall of Washington, and W. E. Burdette IV; great-grandchildren, Jack, Rosie, Walt, and Ruby Kate Burdette, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lewis was preceded in death by his brothers, G.T. Hall and John Lynn Hall, and sisters, Minnie Belle Hunt and Lucille Lloyd.
Mr. Lewis Riley Hall lived a life that was full, generous, and impactful. As we remember him, we celebrate not only the life he lived but the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His memory will be treasured, his stories retold, and his kindness felt for generations to come.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 2pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour prior to the service.
Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Mr. Lewis Riley Hall.
