Rosemary Thornton was born in Johnson City, Tenn on 3/3/1939
To the late Sarah Williams and Mister Wilson, who died before she was born. Thereafter, Sarah moved to Winston-Salem, NC where she raised her children
Rosemary was an adventurous and lively child, she attended Dunbar H.S where she graduated. Soon after graduation, she traveled to New York seeking better opportunities.
In 1955, being the strong, resilient, and responsible young woman she was raised to be, she returned home to bury her mother. After such a trying ordeal she then tasked with returning to New York
With her younger sister and her younger brother followed shortly after. She raised them until they were able to take care of themselves. During these years Rosemary bore two children, then in 1963 she met and married the
Love of her life James Thornton . IN this union they were blessed with four children. Unfortunately in 1971 their love was cut short by his tragic passing leaving her devastated and alone to raise six children.
She set out to accomplish several endeavors. In 1974 she completed her studies at the Brooklyn Training Institute as a Nurse's Aide and later went on to pursue a Nursing Degree. Although she didn't become a Nurse she worked
In several different industries such as Greyhound Bus line , Bell Telephone Company, NY C Transit Authority, and West County School District, and other essential fields. She was very active in First Union Baptist Church where she joined in 1981. During her time there she served on many boards. And was a dedicated member. She was just as dedicated to the Fraternal Order of the Eastern Stars. Where she diligently worked to earn every degree up to the 33rd degree.She also held every position in the Order. Her Moto " IF WERE GOING TO DO IT, LET'S DO IT RIGHT OR NOT AT ALL" And she stood on that! She loved bowling and held upwards of more than 100 Trophies , traveling all over the country as a Champion. Other hobbies included Shooting Pools, Playing Cards , traveling , and being with loved ones. She also loved to Dance and LOOKING GOOOD! She lit up a Room everywhere she went she left her mark. She Will Be Missed! She leaves to carry on her memory . 1 living sister, Mary Jones, 4 Daughters, Lauretta, Tracey, Lisa, Monique. 1 Adopted Daughter, Inez Nelson . 1 Son: Arnold Wilson , 1 SonNLove: Harold , 15 grands one whom she raised, Shakeia 28 Great Grands, 1 Goddaughter, Yvette 1 Sister Friend: Linda 1 Special Niece: Tammy , And a Host of loving Family and Friends
