Rosetta A. Farris, age 70, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 10:46 AM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois She was born on November 8, 1955 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Richard E. and Josephine A. (Stinson) Holman. She married William "Hank" Farris on March 16, 1996 in Cameron, Illinois. Surviving is her husband, Hank Farris of Galesburg, Illinois; two daughters: Amanda (Court Beghtol) Kirby of Galesburg, Illinois and Jessica (Shane Sutton) Kirby of Altona, Illinois; three grandchildren: Asa, Waylon and Norah; numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews; siblings: Raymond (Cheryl) Holman of Salem, Kentucky and Russell Holman of Victoria, Illinois; Mother-in-law, Marietta Farris of Blandinsville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Dick and Jo Holman and father-in-law John Farris.
She first started working at the Galesburg State Research Hospital where she lovingly took care of many patients and after its closing worked at Zellers Mental Health Center in Peoria Illinois, until the opening of the prison which she then became a sergeant for many years at Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, Illinois, then moving on to supervise several different departments before retiring from the state of Illinois with many years of dedicated service. She was a member of the AFSCME Union. Rosetta loved to spend time with her grandkids and enjoyed watching them do the things they loved like playing music and the different sports that each of them was active in. She would spend many nice days out watching the birds and squirrels in her yard which she enjoyed feeding, as well as spending time with her dog Lucy. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Oneida, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the funeral home in Oneida, Illinois. Burial will be at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Altona, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
