In the quiet embrace of December, Rosie Mae Gwinn Perkins took her last breath on the first day, leaving behind a legacy as luminous and warm as the love she cherished so deeply. Born in the small, heartfelt community of Starhill on May 17, 1960, Rosie navigated life with an unwavering spirit and a love for her family that transcended ordinary bounds. At 65 years old, she departed this world surrounded by the tender warmth of her loved ones, a poignant reminder of the nurturing presence she embodied.

From early on, Rosie accepted Christ, embedding a sense of faith that would guide her through life's trials and tribulations. She was a tapestry of love, caring, and unwavering support, always ready to provide a word of advice or encouragement, even when she faced her own adversities. Her ability to comfort others in their times of need drew family and friends to her, creating a sanctuary of solace in her presence.

Throughout her life, Rosie delighted in the simple yet profound joys of cooking, weaving love into every meal she prepared for those she held dear. Her passion for cooking brought countless family gatherings filled with laughter and shared stories. Equally, she reveled in the thrill of the casino, often accompanied by her beloved daughter Lacecia, whose untimely departure left a void in Rosie’s heart that never truly healed.

The heart of Rosie’s existence lay within her family—her husband, Richard Perkins Jr., cherished each moment spent together, while her children—Veronica, Erica, Michael (and his wife Crystal), Richell, Sabrina, and Kryshela —brought her immense pride and joy. Among them all, her grandson Lagarin Mitchell, whom she lovingly raised as her own, stood as a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her legacy blooms abundantly with 24 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, each carrying pieces of her essence and boundless love.

Rosie is also mourned by her siblings: Nancy (William) Butler, Betty (Ronald) White, Isaac (Carolyn) Gwinn, Albert Gwinn, Sally Gwinn, Jacquelene (Illya) Thompson, and Eric Gwinn, who will forever hold the memories of shared laughter and familial bonds close to their hearts. Preceding her in death, her parents, Ben and Estella Lathers, her daughter Lacecia Mitchell Peck, her granddaughter Camille Winters, and great-granddaughter Mi’Angel Harris. Together, they must now welcome Rosie into their embrace, where she will undoubtedly continue to shine.

Though Rosie faced the challenges of illness, her spirit remained resilient until the very end. Tragically, she succumbed to the devastation of a house fire, a heartbreaking turn that none could foresee. Yet, the flame of her love and the myriad memories she gifted her family will forever illuminate their hearts—molded by the nurturing hand of a mother, grandmother, and friend.

As we gather to remember Rosie Mae Gwinn Perkins, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and innumerable cherished moments. Her enduring legacy continues to thrive in the hearts she touched, a testament to a life well-lived and a soul that will never be forgotten.
