Seeds. The late Charlie and Leona Gilbert would plant a seed in the earth that would blossom and bud for decades. On September 12, 1932, Rosie Lee Gilbert was born in Rowena, GA. A southern belle and only child, she matriculated through the Early County School System through 8th grade. It is said that love isn't love until you give it away. On December 23, 1949, Rosie gave her love to the late Philip Hudson and built a family. Eight children were born to their loving union.
Rosie Lee Hudson was a woman of few words but full of wisdom. King Solomon reasoned that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). Along with her husband she joined the Second Kiokee Missionary Baptist Church in Arlington, Georgia where she served for over 70 years. Her roles included deaconess where she served as treasurer for many years and the kind of "church mother" known for her prayers, wisdom and hats! She loved her hats. Deaconess Hudson also enjoyed gospel music. You couldn't beat her in humming a good 'ole Dottie Peoples or Lee Williams gospel song. In the south, we call that "low country" gospel music.
Faith was the guiding light to how she lived and loved. Mrs. Hudson was a devoted wife, caring mother, gracious grandmother, and giving great grandmother. Her godly morals were a template for her family to follow. She believed in loving through sickness and health as she served as primary caretaker for her husband and mother. Her love was indeed patient and kind.
Oscar Wilde said, "Memory... is the diary that we all carry about with us." Our memory diaries of full of stories from road trips with Rosie Lee playing the role of speed monitor to passenger driver. We recall days of her enjoying "the stories" as we called them: Young & the Restless, As the World Turns, and the Bold & the Beautiful. She also enjoyed watching wrestling with who we affectionately call "Uncle Glover."
The last mile of the way is what some call it. On Saturday, February 15th, 2025, Rosie Lee Hudson breathed her final exhale here on earth surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Leona Gilbert; grandson, Michael Fussell who was raised in her home; great granddaughter, Ashley Hudson, a devoted nephew, Rock Hudson, Sr. (Rossalland) who called her his "Baby Ray".
Gratitude is when memory is stored in the heart and not in the mind according to Lionel Hampton. May our hearts forever be grateful for her life and legacy treasured by her five sons and three daughters; Oscar Philip Hudson (Ethel), Charlie Hudson (Dorothy), Martha
Murrell, Martha Hunter, Dennis Hudson (Deborah), Billy Hudson (Kathy), Shirley Fussell, and Tony Hudson (Gwinnett); a nephew who visited frequently with special care, Milton Candidate; 24 grandchildren, three of which was raised in her home, Sharon Austin, Tunisia Stewart (Scott), and James Hunter (Claudia); 54 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other family and friends. Time. God gave us time. May eternity be equally kind as we remember her love.
