Rosita "Rosie" Cortez, 73, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025. She was born on October 16, 1951, in Austin, Texas, to Gerardo Cortez and Maria Antonia Cortez.

Rosie devoted her life to family, community, and service. She worked for many years with the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), where her kindness, creativity, and leadership touched countless lives. She was known for her love of baking, cooking, quilting, gardening, and traveling, but most of all for her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her daughter Alma Estrella Cortez-Jackson (Darrin); beloved grandchildren Eli Jakob-Cortez Jackson, Luna Sol-Cortez Jackson, and Jude Antonio-Cortez Jackson; her sister Anita C. Moreno (Manuel Sr.); nephews Manuel Moreno Jr., Andrew Moreno (Claudia), and Julius Cortez (Jessica); niece Katarina Cortez; great-nephews Nicholas Cortez and Andrew Moreno; and great-niece Esperanza Moreno.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerardo and Maria A. Cortez; brothers Pedro Cortez and Ramon Cortez; and sister Magdalena Cortez.

Services to honor Rosie's life

Visitation: Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 PM at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX 78704.

Mass: Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Saint Mary Cathedral Church, 203 East 10th St., Austin, TX 78701.

Parking: Capitol Tower Garage, 206 E 9th St., Austin, TX 78701 (validation available in the school gym, floor 2). Street parking is also available.

Celebration of Life, luncheon to follow immediately after Mass.
