Ross M Stafford, Jr

Ross Stafford Jr., age 73, of Goliad, TX, passed away on March 19, 2025.

Ross was born in Wichita Falls, TX, on March 1, 1952, to Ross Stafford Sr. and Patsy Clubb. He attended Tuloso-Midway High School in Corpus Christi, TX.

Ross had a deep passion for hunting, fishing, racing, hot rods, and loved running the Texas Mile. Every time he was able, he would camp out for the weekend and run his Superspeedway car. He was thrilled to become part of the 200 mph club with a run of 200.9 miles per hour. He proudly owned Superior Trailers from 1982 to 2019 and was a proud supporter of various livestock shows, including Jim Wells, Nueces County, and Bee County.

Ross is survived by his loving, firecracker wife, Kay Stafford, and children and step-children: Jeremy Stafford and Amanda, Lisa Welker, Leslie Hooper and Tommy. He leaves behind grandchildren: Cally Cardwell and Jon, Madison Hooper, Rylee Hooper, Cody Welker, Katie Stafford, and Colt Stafford; siblings: Lyn-Dee Brandon and Stewart and Carol Lee and Reagan, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also the proud pet parent of Dixie Stafford.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sisters: Pam Moore and Connie Braden, son Justin Stafford, and stepson Tim Welker.

Ross lived a vibrant and full life. He was incredibly proud of his grandson Colt, who carried on the Stafford racing tradition. Ross would often brag about Colt having won the 200 lap Enduro race at the South Texas Arena Racing Event against his adult competitors. His go-to outfit was shorts and flip-flops, and he had a soft spot for unsweet tea (with artificial sweetener). He once rescued a pig named Ida Red, who became a beloved sidekick and shop pet.

Ross was a jokester and prankster, always ready to make someone laugh—sometimes at their own expense. He loved the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, everything Harley Davidson, and the fireworks watched from his pontoon boat in Coletta Creek. He was also a fixture at the Lakeway Court BBQ cook-off, which he had won before with his famous beans, ribs, and brisket, and enjoyed the Lakeway Court Christmas Golf Cart Parade.

He enjoyed family traditions like squatting before prayer, participating in the Roam for Home Fundraiser with his wife Kay, venturing on the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America with his friend Michael Sheets, and spending time at the Mud Buddy trail with Colt. He never failed to jam out with his son, Jeremy, to “Redneck Girl” by The Bellamy Brothers as they cruise in his hot rod. He had a fixation for dessert dishes and always kept things lighthearted. He loved his wife, Kay, and never failed to remind her. His go-to response to whatever she may say or ask is “yes, dear, whatever you’d like”.

Ross will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, and the stories that will be told for generations to come.

Visitation will be held at Sawyer George Funeral Home Monday, March 24th from 5:00-7:00 pm with services Tuesday, March 25th at 11:00 am at Sawyer George Funeral Home.
