Ross M. Weale, 85, a 32-year resident of South Salem, NY died on Friday, July 19th, 2024 of cancer at his home on Lake Waccabuc. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey, the only child of Gilbert and Margery (Ross) Weale. He went to primary school in Englewood and later attended and graduated from Trinity Pawling School in Pawling, NY. He received his BA from Nichols College and took several graduate courses at Harvard Business School.
On September 8, 1962, Ross married the former Carol Elizabeth Bowen at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Wilton, CT. Ross is survived by his children - Ross M. Weale, Jr. (Denise) of Croton, NY and Sara E. Weale of Katonah, NY as well as four grandchildren: Matthew Weale, Olivia Weale, Charlie Rudge and Elizabeth Rudge. He is also survived by his beloved yellow lab Yumi and granddog black lab Ember. Ross is predeceased by his parents and his beloved labs – Cazenovia, Pita, Moryaka, Inge and Damsel.
Ross entered The Bank of New York's Executive Management Program after graduation. He served in several senior management roles as President of a Bank of New York subsidiary in Syracuse, NY and Regional President of the Bank's largest retail division, the County Trust Region of the Bank of New York. In 1985, he co-founded Country Bank in Carmel, NY. Ross finished his career serving as President of the Putnam County Economic Development Corp. Ross was involved in many community organizations. He served as Council President for the Westchester Putnam Boy Scouts of America, Trustee of Northern Westchester Hospital Center, Chair of the Westchester Health Fund, Director ReliaStar/Voya Life insurance Co., Chair of the New York State Small Business Advisory Board during the Pataki Administration and Chair of the Tompkins Mahopac Bank's Business Development Board.
Ross had an incredible zest for life, a unique sense of humor and enjoyed lots of life's simple pleasures. He loved to take pictures up until the very end of his life – and never missed photographing a good sunset. Ross will miss nightly cocktail cruises on Lake Waccabuc, annual trips to Cape Cod, searching for treasures at Nauset Beach, stopping for ice cream whenever possible, traveling the world with Carol and good friends, skiing down a perfectly groomed intermediate run, a great day on the golf course with friends and outstanding music supplied by Christopher Cross, The Kingston Trio, Andre Bocelli, The Carpenters, The Corrs, Jimmy Buffett, Johnny Mathis and local Pipe Major Jonathan Henken.
Ross and his family are extremely grateful for the kind and compassionate care he received from his hospice nurses Evelyn Olsen and Amy Reynolds and his caregiver Mary Abrokwah at the end of his life.
Friends may call at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Rd., Katonah, NY on Saturday, August 3rd from 1PM to 3PM. There will be a brief service at 2PM.
