Roy Allgood of Taylor departed us to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday evening, January 23, 2026.

Roy was born at home in Brownwood, Texas, on September 28, 1928, to parents Noble Fisk Allgood and Sadie Loyal Wells Allgood. Roy was the youngest of four brothers. Growing up in Brownwood, he played football in high school until suffering a knee injury. After graduation, he moved to Odessa, Texas, briefly for work and then returned to Brownwood where he went to work for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Service. On March 6, 1948, he married Lois Laverne Hinds, also of Brownwood.

Shortly after his marriage, he and Lois moved to Austin, Texas, when he was transferred for work. Then in 1949, Roy and Lois moved to Taylor, Texas, where for a time he owned a Texaco Service Station. He was also a member of the Army National Guard for many years. Roy had several jobs before settling on a career working for the Missouri Pacific (MoPac) Railroad in 1955, from which he ultimately retired as a conductor in 1990.

Roy had many favorite pastimes. He loved boating, fishing and waterskiing; he spent much time on the water or camping near the water. He loved children and dogs, and they loved him, too. He loved to grow onions, and he enjoyed chatting with his coffee group in the mornings. He and Lois were members of the Road Runners Travel Group, with whom they travelled extensively. Roy loved to watch football and baseball and old Westerns. He also loved to play dominoes and was a member of various game groups. People referred to him as the Candyman: he loved to make people smile and always had candy in his pocket to give out to anyone who asked. Roy was very service oriented and always willing to help people out in any way he could.

Roy was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Taylor. He served as a deacon in the church for many years. While Roy and Lois never had children of their own, Roy was a father figure to many, including niece Sheila Hinds for whom Roy and Lois became legal guardians.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, W.D. Allgood, Ben Allgood, and Bailey Allgood, 2 nephews, 1 niece, and numerous cousins with whom he was close. He is survived by his wife, Lois, one cousin, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Roy was laid to rest on February 5, 2026, in Jenkins Springs Cemetery in Early, Texas. There will be a celebration of life at the First Baptist Church in Taylor in the Spring of 2026, date to be determined.

The last six years of his life, Roy resided with Lois at the SPJST Nursing Home in Taylor. Family wishes to thank SPJST Nursing Home and Concho Heart Hospice for their care and attention to him in his final years and days.
