Roy Lynn Arldt was born on May 16, 1956, in Georgetown Texas, to Earl and Frances (Teinert) Arldt. He was baptized and confirmed in the faith at Zion Lutheran Church. Roy grew up on the farms and ranches tended to by his parents, where he developed his work ethic and was taught to be honest, caring, and loving. Roy thrived on country living and the adventures farming and ranching would provide. Roy attended Zion Lutheran School. As a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, he served as Vice-President, Secretary, Board of Trustees, Board of Education, Wurstbraten Committee, and Usher. Roy attended Jarrell High School where he excelled academically and athletically. In 1972, Jarrell would play O'Brien in the first Six Man State Championship Game. He would play the entire game because of the small number of teammates. He could be regularly found burning up the back roads of Jarrell and Walburg in his blue and white 69 Camaro.
Two weeks after graduating from high school in 1974, Roy went to work for IBM in Austin. At IBM, he took advantage of night classes to earn associate degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Drafting, Physics, and Business. At IBM, he worked on the first portable IBM computer, as well as several leading high level technologies as they emerged. He was involved in 6 IBM patents. In 1999, he was recruited by Motorola to work in the semiconductor industry. At Motorola/Freescale/NXP, Roy was able to establish himself as the "go to analyst" for failure analysis, packaging, and reverse engineering. Roy enjoyed the challenges semiconductor work would present, as well as the pride of accomplishment after a successful analysis. Roy retired from NXP in 2024 with 1 NXP patent and several external publications.
Roy met the love of his life at a car wash in Georgetown in 1976. On July 16th, 1977 he married Donna Satterfield at Zion Lutheran Church in Walburg. Two sons, Christopher and Brent were born from this union. In 1981, they built their forever home on property just northwest of Walburg that Roy had bought in 1975. To Roy, family was most important. He and Donna would support all the activities of their sons. Two daughters would soon follow, along with 4 grandchildren. For Roy, being a grandpa was a highlight and most important part of his life.
In February of 2023, Roy would begin his journey with cancer with a positive outlook. He would try to accomplish some task each day, and would share his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior whenever possible. He would refer to his health care providers as the "fingertips of God".
Roy passed away on the evening of Friday, February 7, with Donna by his side, holding his ever so strong hand. Roy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna; Sons, Christopher Garrett and wife Brooke; Brent Matthew and wife Jessica; 4 precious grandchildren, Addison Grace, Aubrey Emily, Braden Mark, and Brilee Lynaye. Roy is also survived by his mother, Frances Teinert Arldt; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Becky and Don Cantler, and Earline and Kelly Reichenbach. He is also survived by in-laws, Louise and Ralph Reinhardt, and Hollis and Sharon Satterfield, and numerous nieces and nephews that he dearly loved. Roy was preceded in death by his father, Earl Leon Arldt.

Roy and I worked together at IBM for several years. We were both from small schools, Thrall and Jarrell. We always had something to talk about. I hadn´t seen Roy in many years, but he was the type of guy you never forget. Friendly, hard working, pride in his work and above all, he loved his family! I am sorry for your and the family´s loss, Roy will be missed by so many. Harvey Mikulencak
