Roy Dean Bailey, 80, of Poetry, Texas went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2025 in Rockwall, Texas. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 18, 1945 to proud parents Everett Stanley Bailey and Margery Lavern Bailey.
Roy lost his mother as an early teen, with his father traveling abroad to Scotland in the Navy, he spent his late childhood to early adult years adopted into the Bewley family by Pete & Lucy, along with brother and lifelong friend Ralph, and sister Susan. Roy graduated from Edison HS in Tulsa and attended OU Oklahoma University and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
Roy is best remembered as a strong Christian in his belief of one God as the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, encouraging everyone he knew to put on their Armor of God daily. His life included business ventures from Commercial Real Estate, Billboard Sign Advertising, Emu and Crawfish Farming, Chesapeake Bay Retriever breeding, Operating Manager of the Sea Ranch Restaurant, and owner of Tropical Realty and Rentals, to being the President of Board of Directors of the South Padre Island Economic Development Commission, making meaningful relationships out of acquaintances that became lifelong friends together enjoying the tennis courts, Hill Country Harley Rides, Ski slopes, or Caribbean sailing.
Known by friends and family as just "Bailey", he was how most of the family was introduced to Poetry, TX on their Sundown Ranch back then, along with snow skiing Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, & our beloved South Padre Island where friends and business partners later relocated and Roy/Kathy spent living the last 20 years until his decline in health brought them back home to Poetry for his final days. Being involved with several notable restaurants/hotels being General Manager & culinary chef in his earlier years, many know that Bailey was instrumental in teaching his cooking secrets from Cajun fried turkey, creole dishes, fresh seafood, BBQ, and having a cold beer or cocktail watching the sunset over Laguna Madre.
Roy is preceded in death by his father, Everett Stanley Bailey; and mother, Margery Lavern Bailey his son; Bryan Dean Bailey; adopted parents, Pete and Lucy Bewley and adopted sister, Susan.
