Roy Clement Obituary
Roy joined the USN and served at naval stations in California, New Jersey, Midway Island, Hawaii, and finally, here in Virginia Beach. He continued working with the DOD as a safety specialist before volunteering at Seashore State Park and the Fleet Reserve. Mom and Dad were longtime members of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. Relaxing in the backyard with a cold beverage and chatting with family and friends was his final deployment.
Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling - especially to meet family in Las Vegas. Rafting the rivers in Montana was another favorite pastime that Dad loved until he was 90 years old. Yearly trips to the OBX were relished by his children and grandchildren every summer. These were planned months in advance on the clipboard.
Our father was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, teacher, inspiration, and friend. The man never met an enemy and will be desperately missed.
Roy was predeceased by Barbara, his beloved wife of 63 years, as well as his parents, several brothers and a sister. Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters and son, Kerry C. Koelenbeek (John), Roy, Jr. (Jackie), Joyce L. McClenney, Tracy E. Legg; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Clement; and too many nieces, nephews, and friends to list.
A service to honor his life will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025, 2:00 P.M., at Graham Funeral Home and Crematory, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. He will receive full military honors and Fleet Reserve Association Branch #99 will conduct a ritual in the chapel. Following the service, the family will host a celebration of life at 3728 Colonial Parkway, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Disabled American Veterans. Matt & I are so sorry we cannot be with all of you today. We have such warm memories of your dad & mom, our parents away from home. From backyard picnics to parties, they were always ready for a good time, and they seemed to love having anyone join in the fun!
One particularly fond memory I have of your dad was dancing with him in the living room at their house & showing him how to do the "funky chicken". He gave it a hell of a go, despite his leg. His bright smile & the excitement in his eyes showed just how much he loved having a great time with family & friends!
