Roy Verner Cook, age 92, of the Clayton Community, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Heritage Hospice. Verner was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great great-great-grandfather. He was a 65-year Mason at the Sharptop Lodge #680. Verner never met a stranger and was a cut-up with everyone he came in contact with.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Gayton officiating. Interment will follow at Shoal Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Clayton Community.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, November 10, 2025, and from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, and from 10:00 AM until the Funeral Hour on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the South Canton Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Betty Cook; Parents: Roy and Lucy Cook; Sisters: Cola Walker, Mary Lee Smith, Pearla Turner, Millie Russell, and Docia Jenkins; Brother, John Cook
Survivors include:
Daughter - Wanda Newberry and husband, Travis
Daughter - Shirley Byess and husband Danny
Daughter - Karla Cook and Ronnie Cain
Grandchildren - 6
Great Grandchildren - 19
Great Great Grandchildren - 17
Sister - Lucy Harrison
Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and other Family members also survive.
