Roy Dennis Cox, 91, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, September 2, 2023. He was a loving husband, dad, and papaw who was honored by his daughters and grandchildren. He retired from JP Stevens following 41 years. Roy loved playing cornhole and going fishing. His favorite thing to do was horsing around with all of the grandkids and great grandkids.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Cox; six brothers, Earl, Paul, Orville, R.C., Robert, and J.C.; three sisters, Hazel Crawford, Gladys Conkin and Ruth Cline; best friend, Howard “Bunch” Ryans; son-in-law, Calvin Powell; and grandson-in-law, Travis Tyson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bonnie; daughters, Donna Powell, Rhonda Onks, (Paul), Regina Morelock, Amiee Wyatt (Anthony), all of Kingsport. Eight grandchildren, Sarah Light (Ivan), Amanda Williams (Andrew), Matthew Morelock (Brittany), Seth Morelock (Cori), Olivia Haztikostoplous (Harry), Ethan Morelock (Laura), Kayla Tyson, Amber Burke (Aaron); great-grandchildren, Whitney, Greta, Gracie, Sophie, Hadley, Charley, Whitley, Baby Williams, Berkley, Kinsley, Cooper, Paisley, Sophie Mae, Mason, Bentley, Colson, Abby and Raylan; one great-great-granddaughter, Ivy.
Best friends, Ronnie Morelock, Brandon Jobe, James Arnold and Kerry Trivette; fishing buddies, Benton Rasnake and Robert “Radar” Martin; friend, Rick Jones, who created him a harmonica cd collection that gave him great comfort in his final days.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. A service will follow at 7pm with Anthony Wyatt officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11am on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Morrison Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Morelock, Seth Morelock, Ethan Morelock, Brandon Jobe, Brian Hite and Dennis Hite.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Morelock, James Arnold, Anthony Wyatt, Paul Onks, Ivan Light, Andrew Williams, Harry Haztikostoplous, Aaron Burke, Benton Rasnake and Robert “Radar” Martin.
