Roy Decha Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 9, 2025.
Roy Adrian Decha (93) of Platte City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025.

Roy was born in New Orleans, La., to Louis and Mary (Hart) Decha. He was raised in New Orleans and graduated from LSU. Roy served in the US Air Force and went on to become a commercial airline pilot until he retired. He then became a gentleman farmer. Roy will be interred in the historic St. Louis 1 Cemetery in New Orleans, in his family's Mausoleum.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glen Decha, his wife of 64 years, Audrey (Tucker) Decha, and his son R. Michael Decha.

He is survived by his daughters, Laurie (Mike) Hannon, Therese Decha, and Adrienne (Roger Sager) Decha. He was Papa to seven grandchildren, Brian (Mary) Hannon, Megan (Giovanni) Galasso, Lindsey (Jon) Chambers, Andrew (Jenn Ronnebaum) Hannon, Amanda Cox, Alicia (Justin)Heier, and Devin(Roger) Moore. He was OG Papa to eleven "Great Ones" - Isaac, Alexis, Mia, Luke, Jackson, Noah, Arianna, Emerson, Garrett, Kaladin, and Louis. Also, two nephews, Danny Decha and Gary Decha.

Roy loved music, fishing, hunting, baseball, swimming, and nature. He was a diehard Royals fan, loved the College World Series, Sporting KC, and the Chiefs. Roy loved going to the Gulf Coast for vacations. He taught us to swim, fish, and waterski. He gave us an appreciation for the fragility of nature, the beauty of music, and an uncanny ability to curse.

A memorial gathering will be 3-5 pm Sunday, December 14th, at the Harrington Family Event Center, 218 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS. 66012

Memorial contributions to: Special Olympics Kansas, 5280 Foxridge Drive, Mission, KS 66202 or Breakthrough T1D (formerly JRDF)
