John Douglas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 31, 2026.
John Owen Douglas, 93, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Homestead of Shawnee Assisted Living Facility in Shawnee, Kansas. Born in Piper, Kansas, on June 9, 1932, John was a lifelong resident of the community he cherished. He graduated from Piper High School in 1950, carrying with him the strong work ethic that defined his career. For many dedicated years, John was a proud and skilled Union Carpenter with Local 499, contributing significantly to the construction landscape of the region.

Beyond his professional life, John possessed a passion for craftsmanship and the outdoors. He found immense joy in woodworking, creating intricate pieces, and tending to his garden. These hobbies reflected his patient and dedicated nature. A devoted fan, he loved watching KU basketball, but above all, his greatest pleasure came from the moments shared with his beloved family and cherished friends. John was also long-time member of the Maywood Community Church, in Kansas City, Kansas.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Phyllis Douglas, of the home. He is also survived by his three sons and their families: Greg Douglas and his wife, Tracy, of Kansas City, Kansas; Jeff Douglas and his wife, Michele, of Basehor, Kansas; and Jerry Douglas and his wife, Melissa, of Linwood, Kansas. John was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and a joyful great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought joy into his life.

Memorial services to celebrate John's life are currently pending and will be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Stroke Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Ave. Suite # 214 Overland Park, KS 66202

John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and a profound love for his family and community.
