Roy Esters, Jr. was born on October 26, 1966, in
Indianapolis, Indiana to Maxine L. Fields and the late Roy Esters, Sr. He was raised in the small town of Library, Pennsylvania. As a young boy, Roy accepted Christ, a faith that remained meaningful throughout his life. He was called home to glory on February 9, 2026.
Roy attended schools in the South Park School District in Pennsylvania, where he enjoyed playing sports and developed a lifelong love for athletics. He was very intelligent academically and had a naturally sharp mind. He was also a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan who enjoyed the excitement and camaraderie that sports brought. Roy was always naturally fit with a strong, athletic build that often-reminded others of a bodybuilder, even without spending much time working out.
Roy was known for his strong work ethic and belief in honest labor, taking pride in doing his best in whatever he set his hands to do. Those who knew him remember his vibrant spirit-he loved to laugh and share moments of joy with others, yet he was also deeply passionate and unafraid to show emotion. His heart was sincere, his feelings genuine, and his presence memorable.
Roy loved music and enjoyed singing, often bringing energy and life into a room with his voice and personality. He also had a hearty appetite and truly enjoyed good food, one of the simple pleasures that reflected his warm and lively nature. Known for his signature style, Roy was often seen wearing his favorite hat and a sleeveless undershirt, a look that family and friends will always remember as uniquely his.
During his time at The Hope Center, Roy experienced spiritual renewal and grew closer to God through the encouragement of faith leaders and the fellowship of many brothers and sisters in Christ who became dear friends.
Roy was the youngest of ten children. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Esters, Sr.; his siblings Marcus J. Fields, Jacqueline D. Taylor, and Helene Sarden.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Maxine L. Fields; his children, Sydney Cagle of Dallas, TX, and Aveon Esters of Oklahoma; his siblings Sandra J. Fields of Pittsburgh, PA, Faire L. McCrae of McKees Rocks, PA, Nola M. Fields of Pittsburgh, PA, Sheila Esters of
Indianapolis, IN, Gay D. Lane (Charles Lane) of Glenn Heights, TX, and Lonna E. Shepherd (Craig Shepherd) of Cedar Hill, TX; his beloved friend, Darinda Kerns; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Though Roy's earthly journey has ended, we trust that his soul now rests in God's presence-whole, at peace, and forever embraced by His love.
"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
