Roy Fogelstrom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vander Plaat Funeral Home - Wyckoff from Oct. 27 to Oct. 28, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Roy Gustav Fogelstrom died peacefully on October 26, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born in the Bronx, New York, on August 4, 1931, Roy was the only child of Swedish immigrants Gustav and Thyra Fogelstrom. After his father's passing, he and his mother moved to
Washington Heights, where he spent his youth.
A lifelong New York Giants fan-both baseball and football-Roy held season tickets to Giants football games for over 60 years, starting in 1955 when the team played at the Polo Grounds.
His favorite baseball player was Willie Mays, whom he watched play many times at the Polo Grounds, and his favorite football player was Y.A. Tittle.
An exceptional athlete, Roy attended George Washington High School, where in his senior year he played in the New York City Baseball Championship game. He hit a home run at Ebbets
Field to win the championship against Tottenville High School of Staten Island.
He was on the verge of being offered a Minor League contract in the Can-Am League when a serious knee injury during a basketball game ended his hopes of playing professionally.
Roy married his high school sweetheart, Donna May Connors, and shortly after their wedding he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, Roy and Donna-two
kids from Washington Heights with nothing but each other-crossed the George Washington Bridge and settled in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
Roy began a long career as a salesman for the Solo Cup Company, where he worked for 35 years. After retiring, he took up golf and found joy working as a ranger and starter at Overpeck
Golf Course in Teaneck, New Jersey where he was employed for twenty five years. He loved being outdoors-on the golf course, playing tennis, fishing, or spending time with his grandchildren. That's where he found his peace.
Roy was a humble man with a great sense of humor. He loved a good nickname-and he had a few. For over 35 years, family and friends affectionately called him "Fudd," after the beloved
Looney Tunes character Elmer Fudd. To everyone who knew him, he was "The Fuddman."
He was deeply devoted to his family and friends-generous, kind, and appreciative of life's simple joys. His love and support for those around him were unwavering. Loyal and steadfast,
Roy had a way of bringing out the best in everyone he met.
Roy was predeceased by his beloved wife, Donna, who passed in March 2015. He is survived by his children, Roy Fogelstrom Jr. (and wife Erin) and Jennifer Gilchrist (and husband Timothy),
and by his three grandchildren, Connor and Kyle Fogelstrom and Madeleine Gilchrist.
The list of family and friends whose lives were touched by Roy is endless. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The Fogelstrom family will receive friends on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 10:30 AM at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Ave, Ramsey, NJ.
In Lieu of Flowers donations can be made in Roy's memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown MD 21741
