Roy Gene Freeman

Freeman- Roy Gene Freeman -Sr Chief retired USN-, age 87 of Keego Rd Brewton Alabama passed away February 16, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. Originally from Jay Florida, he was a 1956 graduate of Jay High school, and a long-time resident of Escambia County, Alabama. He was a member of Catawba Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Freeman proudly served his country until his retirement from the Navy in 1974. His post naval careers included equipment technician for Spacelabs inc, and driving semi-trucks for Poole and Dixie Chips, but his passion was serving the Lord in music ministry for several local churches including Catawba Springs Baptist, North Brewton Baptist, and Alco Baptist.

Everyone who knew Roy knew he was never sitting still. He was an avid gardener and took great joy in sharing the bounty from his garden.

Mr. Freeman is survived by his wife of 69 years Wilma Jeanne (Teeny) Chavers Freeman of Brewton AL; one daughter Linda (David) Cooper of Augusta GA; four granddaughters Miranda (Fred) Knall of Norfolk VA, Kathleen (Nathan) Donaldson of Augusta GA, Jessie Collins of Ocala FL, and Reba Collins of Dunnellon FL; two grandsons Drake (Sarah) Cooper of Savannah GA , and Samuel Collins of Wiesbaden Germany; one great-grandson Michael Knall of Holt FL; and one beloved sister-in-law Mrs. Bobbie Chavers of Brewton AL; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Freeman is preceded in death by his parents Wilber Freeman and Maude Polk Freeman, one brother Marvin Freeman, one sister Doris Freeman Salazar, and one daughter Rhonda Freeman Collins

Visitation will be held at WILLIAMS MEMORIAL CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME BREWTON, ALABAMA from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday February 20, 2026 with funeral services immediately following at WILLIAMS MEMORIAL CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME with Reverends Steve Yuhasz and Jeff Edwards officiating. Internment will follow at Catawba Springs Cemetery Brewton Alabama with WILLIAMS MEMORIAL CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME OF BREWTON ALABAMA directing.
